MAKING READING FUN!
Our new Interactive Digital Books are a fantastic way for your little ones to interact with the exciting world they live in. The more access kids have to good books, the brighter and happier they are. McDonald’s wants to help make reading fun with Interactive Digital Books covering all sorts of subjects. We’ve teamed up with Dorling Kindersley, an award-winning global publisher whose extensive children’s range brings outstanding information together with magical illustrations and design.
WHAT EXACTLY ARE INTERACTIVE DIGITAL BOOKS?
WHAT ELEMENTS OF THE BOOK WILL BE INTERACTIVE?
We are calling these books ‘interactive digital books’ rather than ‘e-books’ as the latter aren’t always interactive. Our books include features such as puzzles, animations, reveals, quizzes, picture zooms, picture viewer, sounds and music – all designed to appeal to children. Children can also create their own books on Happy Studio using text, images, animated objects and swappable backgrounds. Once completed, they can share their books with their parents, save them on the site to play with at a later date or even print them off the keep. Parents themselves can also their child’s creation via social media.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The interactive digital books are available for use across a wide range of platforms, from smartphones to tablets as well as online via the Happy Studio App and HappyStudio.com.
Happy Studio also allow children to create, share with their parents and even print off their digital books using the ‘book creator’ programme.
HOW MCDONALD’S ENSURED THAT THESE BOOKS ARE SUITABLE AND RELEVANT FOR CHILDREN
The books have been developed in close consultation with the McDonald’s Europe Digital Engagement Advisory Board, which comprises a panel of experts on digital education and learning. Members of the panel include Professor Angela McFarlane, an expert on the educational benefits of video games and visiting professor of education and director of learning technology at the University of Bristol, and Professor Tom Baranowski, an expert on designing and evaluating programmes that help change children’s dieatary and printed activity behaviours.
